U.S. WW II Training Gas Mask M1A1
Introduced in 1940 as the M1, it changed names to the M1A1 when the exhaust valve was improved. These were redesignated M2 and M2A1 in 1941 and production ceased in 1942. The M1 cylindrical canister was screwed on the rubber face piece. Due to a shortage of Service gas mask, the Training mask was issued for operations in North Africa and Italy, especially to Airborne units as it was lighter and less bulky. The black rubber face mask is still nice and soft, the black straps on the mask look to be all there but they are worn they are made of elastic and they are dry. Metal canister has light OD painted finish with some same dents in the metal. The carrying case is made of OD tan canvas with U.S. with Chemical Insignia with Training Gas Mark, marked inside flap M1 E.A.E. Lot 55. The carrying case shows wartime field wear with age but in sound condition. Overall shows wartime wear with some age. Exc. $50.00
